A superb pair of Cast George II Silver Candlesticks by John Cafe 1749

A superb pair of cast George II silver candlesticks by John Cafe, London 1749. With square bases shaped and stepped with acanthus form corners. The fluted columns rising above a circular knop to a square knop with matching acanthus decoration to the corners. The capitals with two raised bands above a central plain band. The original sconces are similarly decorated with the cast acanthus pattern. Both candlesticks are elegantly chased with floral design. Both are engraved, just below the stem, with a coat of arms as yet unidentified.

 

Marked to each underside for London 1749, along with the maker’s mark for the specialist candlestick maker John Cafe.

 

These candlesticks are of the very highest quality. Absolutely no damage or repair and in stupendous original condition with excellent detail to the raised cast decoration and the chasing. The hallmarks to the underside very crisp & clear.
