A  Magnificent Georgian Irish Silver Salver/Tray James Le Bas Dublin 1816

An exceptionally large  Irish silver salver or tray of circular form. The cast and applied border of shaped foliate shell pattern. The central plate with a ring of foliate and floral designs  on a delicate prickwork background. The centre with a contemporary armorial depicting a female clad in robes with a book in one hand and a cross in the other. Above is the motto: "In Deo Pro Salute Spero." Which roughly translated means:  Trust in God for Safety. The whole standing on four scroll and shell pad feet.

The marks are struck to the underside for James Le Bas Dublin 1816. Also struck is the retailers mark for Law.

This is a highly unusual and exceptionally fine salver of massive proportions. Thick robust gauge silver in absolutely original condition with no damage or repair.  Clearly struck marks. Very slight wear to the central crest. The definition of the border is crisp as is the engraving.
A very important piece by the premier Irish silversmith of the time.
