A Rare Irish Silver Sugar Caster, Dublin 1715

£3,500

A Rare & Superb Irish Silver Caster, Dublin 1715. Of baluster form, with a pierced lid surmounted with an acorn final. The main body of the caster is plain with an applied band to the waist, engraved with initials P over L I. All standing on a raised foot.

Hallmarked for Dublin 1715. Marks to lid & maker's mark rubbed.
This beautiful rare Irish caster is in exceptionally fine condition. Of excellent gauge, and well proportioned design. The overall patina is very nice. It sits true and apart from a little rubbing to the hallmarks.

Irish silver from this period is exceptionally rare and thus highly collectable. We have not found a comparable example, and believe this to be an important piece of Ireland's silversmithing heritage.
