A Very Good Victorian Silver Tea or Drinks Tray, Atkin Bros, Sheffield 1899

 A very good quality silver tea or drinks tray of rectangular form. The border fluted with acanthus leaf decoration  and shell form  corners and twin shaped handles.  The central plate in graved with an armorial depicting a stag lying down with a collar about its neck beneath which is the Latin inscription: “ Nec timeo nec sperno. “ Translated as: “Neither despise nor spurn.”   Around this the plate is engraved  with leaf form and floral arabesques. 
 
 Marked for Sheffield 1899 by  Atkin Brothers.
 
 The tray is in absolutely superb original condition with no damage and no signs of repair. It sits flat upon a table and the handles of cast silver robust and unworn. The hallmarks are clear.
