A Very Fine Pair of Heavy Geo. II Silver Sauceboats, Lon 1742, Nicholas Sprimont
A very fine pair of George II silver sauceboats, by Nicholas Sprimont, London 1742. Of plain, large oval form, raised to a wavy rim with an acanthus mounted scrolling handle. Both engraved to the side with identical crests. (see pictures) All standing on 3 leaf shouldered & hoof footed legs.
Hallmarked for London 1742 with the maker’s mark Nicholas Sprimont.
These sauceboats are in wonderful condition with minimal scratching, no repairs. Small crease to one rim and a pin-prick hole, hardly noticeable. Both stand true on a flat surface. Marks are partially rubbed, in keeping with over 250 years of cleaning.
Of an exceptional weight and gauge, with a lovely patina. A pair of this weight and in such condition are a very rare find.
