A Very Fine Pair of George III Silver Wine Coasters Sheffield 1818 by John and Thomas Settle

£2,750
An exceptionally good pair of Georgian  silver wine coasters of flared form with cast flowerhead and scrolling foliate rims supported by embossed leaves.  Turned fruitwood bases with the central silver button engraved with the crest of a dragon wielding a sword emerging from a tower. Baize covered bases.

Both marked to the lower rim for Sheffield 1818 by John and Thomas Settle.

Both coasters are in first class condition with no damage and no repair. The wooden bases have no cracks or splits and the hallmarks although rubbed are legible.   Because of their large size they’re suitable for champagne or oversized bottles. An unusual and very attractive pair.

Diameter: 19.5 cm
